Oil & Gas

The core mission of seals in this industry is to achieve absolutely reliable sealing in harsh environments such as deep sea, polar regions, high temperature and pressure, flammability, explosiveness, and strong corrosion, ensuring the safety of personnel, environment, and assets.

Upstream exploration and mining: the "life and death gate" between wellhead and underground equipment

Application scenario: Blowout Preventer (BOP)

Seal types: giant gate seal, annular seal (annular blowout preventer), usually made of high-strength, high elasticity polyurethane (PU), hydrogenated nitrile rubber (HNBR) or special composite materials.

Function: Installed at underwater or onshore wellheads, it is the last and most critical safety barrier to prevent blowouts. When the pressure is out of control (well surge), it can instantly close, shear the drill pipe, and seal the wellhead.

Real case (negative example): The 2010 BP Deepwater Horizon drilling platform explosion and oil leakage accident.

One of the direct reasons is the failure of the critical sealing and shearing functions of the blowout preventer. In an emergency situation, its gate failed to successfully shear the drill pipe and completely seal the wellhead, resulting in a continuous gush of crude oil for several months, causing the most serious marine environmental disaster in US history, resulting in billions of dollars in losses. This case vividly illustrates the failure of a critical seal, which can destroy the entire enterprise and have a global impact.
